Khatling glacier is a lateral glacier, at the source of river Bhilangana. According to legends a celestial nymph tried to lure Lord Shiva, while the almighty was at meditation. She was spurned by him and was dissolved into liquid form, thus originating the Bhilangana
Nature has bestowed her bounty on the vale of Bhilangana in abundance, and the rich pasture lands are ideal camping sites.
The Khalting Glacier is associated with the giant hanging glaciers of Ratangian, Jogin and Phating. The moraines on the sides of the glaciers look like standing walls of gravel and mud. A semi-frozen lake, called Bhil Sarovar, is the central point on one of the moraines. The flat land on these moraines and the Kunali bugyals are excellent pasture lands during the summer and rainy season.
Day 01 : Ghuttu [1,524m] from Dehradun 188 km
Drive upto Ghuttu from Dehradun, Dinner and overnight at Tourist Rest House.
Day 02 : Ghuttu [1,524m] - Reeh [2,132m] 10 km
Leave Ghuttu after early breakfast with packed lunch. Steep climb of 10 km, Dinner and overnight in tent colony run by Garhwal Manda Vikas Nigam.
Day 05 : Pachari [2,896m] - Khalting [3,717m] 10 km
Steep and strenuous trek. On the way one can trek to Tamakund [3,415m] from where Khalting Glacier is 3 km.
Overnight in caves Pachari - Naumuti [2,957m,,1.5 km]-
Bhelbagi[3,110m,5 km]-
Bhumka [3,201m, 1 km]-
Tamakund[3,415m, 3 km] -
Khalting Glacier [3,717m; 3 km].
Day 06
Around Khalting Glacier Trek along and around the Glacier to the magnificent hanging Glacier of Ratangian, Jogin group and Kirti Stambh, etc. Overnight in caves at Khalting glacier.
